Leo Varadkar has confirmed that anyone refusing to return to their job when lockdown is lifted will no longer be entitled to the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.Non-essential retail stores and personal services such as hairdressers are among those starting a phased reopening today.And the Tanaiste has responded to concerns that business may experience a shortage of staff by insisting that anyone on the PUP must accept their old job back when offered if they want to keep receiving the payment.
Mr Varadkar told Newstalk Breakfast: "Students are entitled to the PUP on the same basis as anyone else. "You do hear some anecdotal evidence from employers about people not willing to take their old jobs back, but we did hear that last summer and it didn't turn out to be as big of a deal as people made out initially.
And the Fine Gael leader also claimed that indoor dining at pubs and restaurants could return in July - as long as cases remain stable.
