Leo Varadkar and Simon Harris met in Government Buildings for over an hour on Monday as the transition between Taoisigh gets underway. Attention is now turning to a Cabinet reshuffle and whether Simon Coveney will be dropped from the top table.

Leo Varadkar and Simon Harris met in Government Buildings for over an hour on Monday as the transition between Taoisigh gets underway. Attention is now turning to a Cabinet reshuffle and whether Simon Coveney will be dropped from the top table. Mr Harris will become Taoiseach on April 9. He met with the current Taoiseach on Monday morning. “The Taoiseach briefed the Fine Gael Leader on upcoming national and international issues,” a spokesman for Mr Varadkar said.

Speaking in Dublin on Monday evening, Mr Harris said that he did not want to go into detail on the meeting but that it was “an opportunity to be updated on a number of national and international” matters. He said: “I don't think mind me saying this… He said it's important to be yourself that every holder of Office has to bring themselves and their own authenticity to the role. I think that's good advice, which I was very grateful for
