Leaving Cert students will have to wear face masks during oral exams following a u-turn by the State Examinations Commission. The move is a drastic change from guidance issued last week, which stated that face masks must not be worn by either interviewer or the candidate as it would interfere with proper and clear communication.
“I wish all students the very best as they continue to prepare for the oral examinations over the coming weeks.” Each student’s teacher will ask the questions during the oral exam but will not mark candidates’ performance. A spokesperson said: “Following strong representations made by the ASTI seeking modifications, the State Exams Commission has confirmed changes to previously issued guidance regarding oral examinations.
