Branching out to start your own business is a massive feat, with thousands of people across Ireland nurturing their own dreams of working for themselves.

Laura Morgan turned that dream into a reality in 2023, and will soon be celebrating her milestone first year in business with her public relations and events company Laura M Marketing and Events.

Laura told RSVP Live that her inspiration to make this move happen for herself came from her mother, who she says has worked incredibly hard all her life to constantly grow in her career and education.I had been thinking about it for a good while and had spoken to many of my friends who had made the move to becoming self-employed and ask them about the pros and cons of what they had learnt from their experience etc.

In my early career I had a lot of female and male managers in the industry that I was in and I learnt so much from them. I do think in recent years female representation has improved massively, as it should have. There are times where I see the gender divide still referred to but I think it is important to acknowledge the importance of everyone's value in a workplace or as management.

Looking back I would have established a work life balance a bit quicker and I have learnt now that every success, big or small is to be celebrated and acknowledged, especially working for myself.Again working with some amazing female entrepreneurs I have learnt the value of hard work, respect and appreciating the people in your circle and community and being able to maintain these relationships is vital to success.I do find the unknown slightly pressuring.
