Property, located outside Navan, Co Meath, built without planning permission 15 years ago

However, shortly before the deadline expired, the couple’s lawyers secured a temporary High Court injunction against the council restraining demolition.

When the matter was briefly mentioned before Ms Justice Eileen Roberts, Deirdre Hughes BL, for Meath County Council, said her client was opposing the action and will seek to set aside the injunction. The Murrays, through their barrister Barra McCabe, said they intend to put new evidence before the courts.

This agreement was allegedly agreed between Meath County Council and the former owners of the land where the Murrays’ property was built, and before they acquired the landholding.

Great to see some precedence being set on the matter. I might stick up a small cottage on a beach somewhere. I’ll get 15 years out of it anyway

Maybe if they’d built a smaller house no one would have noticed 😆😆

Damien English's gaf is OK though I suppose 'Sauce for the goose sauce for the gander comes to mind'

No sympathy for them with their mansion built without getting planning . I suppose they think the law is for people with smaller houses

Let them bring a Ukrainian into the house. It won’t be knocked down then. The gov will pay them

You could potentially squeeze a few hundred unvetted welfare migrants here

This property, located outside Navan, Co Meath, was built without the involvement of an architect 15 years ago.

Have the council nothing better to do with their time? Destroying houses during a housing crisis seems very counter productive. Might be worth just giving them the planning permission.

I don’t know the facts but destroying a habitable property doesn’t seem right and cannot be ecologically sound. Slap a massive fine on them and if they don’t pay then a judgment mortgage equal to all the costs including demolition

It should be knocked just for the hideous aesthetic. Why do people build these monstrosities in the countryside?

Beautiful home but you nerd planning. Or one did anyhow

The size of it 😲

Let people build homes in their lands!! Stop being communists you lack homes for people let people alone and live their lives

Does this couple have form in this regard? Have they done this before?

Must have a neck like a jockeys b*llocks! A lot more money than taste apparently

He should be investigated on how much did he paid the builder or is that another 🤫🤫

A suburban style house on steroids. So many like it around the county-side. Brutal, and already so dated 😑

'...think of the children, save the children, save the babies..' MakeMeWannaHoller

The neck of that fella. Flatten that house and be done with them

Damien English must be thinking, better keep my head down FineGael

I'll knock it myself

And it's f'ing ugly. Are normal sized windows super expensive in Meath 😳

It would be a shame. It’s a fine house.

Jaysus, another mcmansion....

Planning law is planning law! If it didn't have planning permission it should be demolished...no if's and's or but's... Too many cowboys flouting the planning laws!

Should never had been built

Nothing like the government destroying perfectly good houses
