The new Labour leader Alan Kelly has indicated that his party will stay out of government, however he has said he will continue to engage with all parties.
The Tipperary TD said that in a time of crisis, Labour would offer constructive support for the national effort as he said it had done. When it was put to him that Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, the Regional Technical Group and themselves would also have the numbers for a stable government, Mr Kelly would not be drawn, restating his view that it was up to the four parties to form a government.
Earlier, the former Labour president Proinsias De Rossa urged the party to consider going into Government with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, saying "there is nothing to be lost by negotiations and potentially much to be gained". "I want to urge you to seriously re-consider the apparent decision of the party at national level to avoid, not only government, but even the negotiations that would establish whether or not we could have sufficient key elements of our manifesto to justify or not our participation in government," Mr De Rossa wrote."For me the survival of the party is extremely important as the only democratic party of the left in Ireland, but that is not the issue in this decision.
He concluded: "Let's negotiate a strong programme for government based on our excellent manifesto 2020, while taking account of the current crisis and its aftermath, and include mechanisms to ensure its delivery, with a clear understanding of where the red lines are.
Lol 😂
All diving for cover
I believe that’s what the electorate indicated.
Not surprising given that they were annihilated after they went in with FG at both local and national. Other small parties would do well to learn from this.
Good labor are a joke
Then again with the current social distancing ,the entire dail contingent of the labour party would only need 12 metres of space .
cocooning
Another yellow belly.
permanently by the looks of it, his party voted for the champion of water charges, despite claiming to representing the working class that protested to get rid of them , makes sense ?
After the while jobstown thing with Joan in the car.... I'm done with labour. I think Alan Kelly is a dick as well
Labour's official stance has been 'we don't want these seats' ever since the election. Absolutely shameful stuff. I'd be surprised if they got half the seats in the next election.
Totally useless even more gutless than the greens
I don’t like Alan Kelly but it’s a sensible move after FF left his party hang out to dry and they were practically wiped out
ToryFibs wise very wise
Lmao pussy
Remember him and the water charges
Kelly says Labour won't enter Government, and you believe him... based on?
Total abdication of responsibility on behalf of Labour. Guess less bottle in this lad than thought.
And hide under a rock while someone with balls tries to put this country back together.
Odd that communist is called part of the 'labor' party when none of the people he wants to import into Ireland from Asia or Africa actually work.
OMG, total surprise
I will for the first time never vote Labour with that idiot at the helm. He's in it for the power only.
No shit Sherlock 😂😂😂
