Stephen Kenny News

Dundalk FC,Whelan's,Republic Of Ireland National Football Team

The ex-Ireland manager's boys have both made big debuts in the last fortnight

Older boy Fionn made his musical debut in Whelan's two weeks ago while Kenny’s younger son, Eoin, came off the bench to get his League of Ireland debut on Monday night for Dundalk.

Kenny also scored twice in 12 appearances in a loan spell at Wexford last year. And Dundalk’s head of football operations, Brian Gartland, has praised the kid’s attitude, saying he has the tools to make it in League of Ireland football. “It's brilliant for Eoin to get his debut for us. I am delighted for him, he works so hard, his work ethic is incredible, on and off the pitch, he duly deserved his opportunity.”

“We performed really well but the final action, an assist or a strike on goal, just wasn’t there. But their attitude has been brilliant, we are asking for positivity, we don't want anyone moping, or having down faces and when you are left out of the squad and not starting when you feel you should be, it's hard.

Former boss O’Donnell was manager for two years at Oriel Park - and did a fine job under a limited budget. But the club’s poor start to this 2024 campaign has left them in dire trouble.
