The company is the subject of around 38,000 lawsuits from consumers who claim the baby powder caused cancer due to contamination with asbestos.Despite the company’s denials however, the use of talc in their baby powder will be discontinued next year.
In response to the legal actions, Johnson & Johnson created a subsidiary company, LTL Management, in October. That new company was assigned the talc lawsuits and then immediately placed into bankruptcy, putting the claims on hold.
