With public sector debt at €240 billion, private sector funding limited, developers facing eroding profits and institutional investment on the wane, where is the money for building new homes going to come from?

In a move that surprised nobody, Paul Murphy, the People Before Profit TD, called for the nationalisation of Twitter in the wake of Elon Musk’s chaotic takeover of the social media platform.

Rather unhelpfully, Murphy did not provide a legal pathway as to how the Irish government could nationalise a company headquartered in another jurisdiction – or, more importantly, how Musk would be compensated. After all, he had just paid $44 billion for Twitter; presumably ...
