This is the youngest Westminster constituency in Northern Ireland, having been created in 1997, and one of the most predictable.

Apart from an Ulster Unionist victory in the year of its birth, this has been a Sinn Féin seat, and the party has polled just over 40% of the vote share in every General Election since 2010.

Sinn Féin's Órfhlaith Begley is the incumbent, winning with a majority of 7,478 over the DUP’s Thomas Buchanan in 2019.DUP Assembly member Thomas Buchanan has finished second in every General Election since 2005, beating SDLP into third place. But there is a crowded unionist field this time around with the Ulster Unionists, Traditional Unionist Voice and Conservatives all fielding candidates.

The SDLP’s Daniel McCrossan is another familiar name on the ballot paper, having also contested the past four General Elections. The high-profile Stormont Assembly member took 7,330 votes five years ago, the highest for the party since former SDLP deputy leader, Donegal native and Armagh resident Brid Rodgers controversially donned a Tyrone jersey as she switched to the constituency in 2001 and took 13,942 votesStephen Donnelly of the Alliance is also standing for the fifth time. In 2019, the local councillor polled 9.7%, the party’s highest ever in the constituency.
