ISIS bride Lisa Smith must be arrested as soon as she steps off the plane when it arrives at Dublin Airport, a leading senator claimed. But Senator Gerard Craughwell has demanded Smith be arrested immediately when she steps off a plane onto Irish soil.
The former Air Corps member, from Dundalk, Co Louth, and her two-year-old daughter are thought to be somewhere near the Turkish border, having escaped from a camp in Syria which held family members of IS. He added: “There is no doubt in my mind, that at the very least, she comes back here as a person of interest.“She should not be allowed to freely walk the streets of Dublin without being interrogated first.Smith has denied being a jihadi and claims her child was born to a British father, a suspected member of the terror group who was killed last year.
A source told the Irish Mirror: “Not only do we have the welfare of a two year old child at the centre of this, but we now very clearly have Turkey telling States like Ireland that our citizens are our problem.”State broadcaster TRT Haber yesterday said Turkey aimed to repatriate around 2,500 militants, most to EU countries. It is known Smith was in the same tent as Bekmirzaev and her son in the sprawling Ain Issa camp in northern Syria.
It is unclear if she will face charges when she arrives in Dublin but she will be interrogated to obtain details about her time with Isis. It is believed she may have vital information on a terrorist who fought with the terror group and who has since returned to Ireland.
