The patient who is being treated for coronavirus in Northern Ireland is a woman who travelled home from Italy with another passenger.
Asked whether the person is from Northern Ireland, Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride said: "I think the most important thing here is that we respect patient confidentiality so I'm not going to disclose any personal details about this individual.Cross-border efforts are now underway to trace people who may have come into contact with the woman.
Dr McBride told Belfast Live on Wednesday that the virus had the potential to become a "global pandemic". The risk assessment will be carried out by top specialists from the government’s National Public Health Emergency Team . A spokesperson said: “We have underscored the very urgent need for this documentation to be made available to the festival, so that an informed and prompt decision can be made regarding our forthcoming events.
