Ireland to introduce law where parents, teachers and neighbours given names and addresses of sex offenders

Close neighbours and school principals are to be told names and addresses of dangerous sex offenders living in their midst.

“Recognising this, my Department is working on new legislation to enhance the way convicted sex offenders are assessed, managed, and supervised or monitored. And the measure will only be used in circumstances where the registered sex offender remains a clear and present danger. Before information is disclosed, the garda must be satisfied the move would not provoke public disorder, physical harm, intimidation or damage to property.
