New study calculates emissions on basis of consumption rather than production

Homes swept away, livelihoods disrupted. A coastal community in Senegal battles the climate change tide

“Ultimately, this system of emissions accounting penalises those countries – typically poorer – that are involved in the more carbon-heavy stage of the global supply chain,” the advisory body said. When it comes to the carbon impact of high-tech products, Ireland imports about 55 times what it produces. In hotel and accommodation we import 14 times what we produce.

Chemicals, rubber, mining products, trade, transportation equipment, high-tech products, food, drinks, tobacco and textiles are also among the worst offenders.

FFS. We will never claw that back 😢

Add in 100,000 extra humans in a year and what have you got?

Give it a rest please!!!

Your frequent reminder that you cannot win when ideologues keep inventing new ways of moving the goalposts.

Grow trees solves excess carbon that is NOT the problem. Research dummies, research. Anything else is 🐂💩.

Well tds insist on flying everywere and been chaffeured everywere

How are we responsible for our consumption but we are also responsiible for the consumption of those that eat our exported beef?

Stop letting so many people into the country like the EU demands and your problem with the 'real carbon footprint' is resolved. Europe is being destroyed by the WEF, EU and the UN. Period.

Best to increase taxes, ban meat, turf & all travel unless you are part of the ruling class

The consumption method allows the countries actually generating the emmissions through manufacture and export to get off a good deal easily - that might suit the academics of ESRI etc, but it doesnt help reduce emissions

Because this whole thing is based on guesswork.

More plant food.

Don't care

lies

Then pass the 'Cost' onto the supply .We are already paying 30% above the EU average why exactly? .All these Green taxes are just another excuse 2 rob Irish people to make 0% of an effect 🤔
