It has been scorching start to the week around Ireland with Dublin’s Phoenix Park hitting a record temperature for the year - but it is not all good news for sun seekers

Some parts of the country hit a whopping 26C.

Bright or sunny spells will develop in the west and northwest later with highest temperatures of 16C to 21C expected.

Met Eireann said: "Generally cloudy to begin today with patchy light rain and drizzle slowly moving eastwards, and just limited bright or sunny intervals. They added: "Patchy rain and drizzle in the east will clear into the Irish Sea early in the night and it will turn dry then with clear spells.
