Image: @PANationalGuard LABOUR LEADER BRENDAN Howlin says if his party gets into government he will insist that inspections be carried out on all US military aircraft that land at Shannon Airport.
“There are a lot of moral issues that are difficult and would have consequences. But we’ve said that, unless those troops were involved in a war or a mission that was sanctioned by the United Nations, we will not let them use Shannon. Concerns about the lack of inspections of US aircraft that land at Shannon have previously been raised in the Dáil by a number of TDs including former Independents 4 Change TD, now MEP, Clare Daly. She said that trusting the US government’s assertion that no arms or weapons are on board flights is not good enough and claimed the US military sees Ireland as almost an outpost of the US, rather than an independent, neutral state.
Who might that be? Howlin said he will talk to Sinn Féin but said issues of taxation, and trust, mean there are very significant barriers to working with the party.
Howlin by name and Houling by nature🐂💩
Labour have no candidate in Clare so easy for him to talk, what would he do for Shannon then because he did nothing before
He will in me hole.
What a dope !!! What does nodding duck mean ?
And replace the airports jobs as well Mr Howlin ? Or maybe we might see an increase of the Aeroflot flights after US airlines boycott Shannon
Let them have a base subject to inspections and no rendition flights.
I'm no gaeilgeoir, but I think the correct translation into Irish is: 'he will in his hole'
He had plenty opportunities to do that before and he never bothered himself. Labour has betrayed its supporters and now they are finished ..hopefully
Best Labour promise so far. Never saw BrendanHowlin at anti war protests.
Howling is full of crap, virtue signalling to score votes
Labour were a nodding duck when they were last in power
At time if our greatest need in Brecit timed Pence told us to support Johnson and UK. History will view him as a yes man for Trump
Regrettably, macroeconomic pragmatism and prudence and real politik disallows holier than thou self-righteous sanctimoniousness. We could always sell Ireland to US like Denmark wouldn't Greenland. Or just become nodding woody wood peckers.
Sometimes I wonder why we do not promote more commercial traffic through Shannon airport or is it government policy to let the hares race wild in Shannon, ?
Would he tho?
Any yes like most Irish people I’m pro America
Typical labour he thinks he has the whip hand in dealing with the USA idiots
They'll land in Belfast or build one in the north instead and shannon will lose it 3000+ aviation support subsidiaries as well.Noshannonstopover
It would make better economic sense if the US offered to build a Military Base in Shannon it would create 1000's of jobs in the area. It works in Germany why not here & forget about the Neutral shite - we called WWII the Emergency what a joke Ireland was shameful part of history
Says the 'Nodding Duck' party leader!!
agreed, if we are truly neutral. Labour can sod off.
the 4% party
Easy to make promises when you know that you won't be in govt . This is an attempt to win over defence forces members and their families votes. There are real issues both pay, equipment and capability wise in our military, but labor will not solve them. Populist at best.
Its business for Shannon .Its a transit Airport trying to survive. Here we go again its all about Dublin allow Rural Ireland nothing.
Good revenue stream ...'cut off your nose to spite your face' !!!
He can push all he wants it's not gonna happen🤔
So Big Brendan wants to go head to head with President Trump 🤣 but didn’t bother going head to head with Obama in the 8 years he was using Shannon. Is there an election coming up or something?
One thing we know for sure is we can take labour's election promises as gospel 😂😂😂
Isn't that the sort of thing Labour says at Election time? More likely to push conscription as an exciting career choice if they get elected
If we are truly a neutral country we have to end the support. The problem is the USA could royally F*** is in other ways if they wanted to. Hard call for the people in charge to make
Believe that?
'nodding duck?'
Labour's way, Not Americans way!!!
