Ireland's interim boss, John O'Shea, made changes in the team's playing style and secured a draw against fourth-ranked Belgium. Evan Ferguson had a chance to end a 20-game winless streak but missed a penalty. Debutant Sammie Szmodics impressed with his commitment on the pitch.

Meet the interim boss, not quite the same as the last boss. John O'Shea promised to mix things up more than Stephen Kenny and did so. Ireland went long at times though Evan Ferguson clearly wanted his team-mates to go even more direct. Still, a draw against the fourth ranked Belgians can't be sniffed at. He has operated there for Blackburn but it could be the case that until he's playing in the number 10 role Ireland won't use him to best effec
