I wanted to pursue my PhD, but with low numbers of PhD scholarships available in Ireland , the wage wouldn’t have been liveable. For Nina, tuition fees and the cost of living in Dublin meant staying to do a Master’s wasn’t an option for her either. There’s a great vibe in the city, it’s relaxed and unpretentious. Germany in general feels less commercialised than Ireland, it is not all about profit maximisation. My current institution offered better working and living conditions than Ireland. Earning comparable money I have a better quality of life, and if I teach or participate in a research project, I’m paid well for my work.
Talking to one's family and friends back home, one is less pessimistic about moving back. Ireland's media and establishment would encourage one to stay away, even when they try to do the opposite ... emigration RipOffRepublic
Very eloquently put, mirrors a lot of my own experience. I agree fully - except for the Lyons part. Character flaws is something everyone has.
So why are people in Third Country Britain happily scoffing Russian fish at their local chippies when there's a bloody war going on? Cos it's well cheap, innit - Hooray!
Dublin would be a great city - if it wasn't strangled to death by the psychotic greed of the landlord class.
