Ibec said the Government must urgently deliver a range of policies to speed up housing delivery

The organisation said the Government must therefore urgently deliver a range of policies to speed up housing delivery.

Ibec said a recent survey of CEOs found that more than 70% of firms pointed to housing availability as a challenge to their operations this year. The report recommends that a temporary VAT refund worth 5% of the price be introduced for those buying new build homes, which it claims would assist with offsetting rising construction costs.

There should also be improved tax treatment of landlords' expenses and greater security for tenants, the analysis claims, to help boost the functioning of the rental sector. The analysis also says the development of digital and other relevant skills in modern building methods need to be encouraged and accelerated capital allowances for investments in new building technologies introduced.

Yes let the people build homes for their families not just the rich getting richer

IBEC are constantly calling for more work permits to be issued for low skilled labour from non EU countries. Maybe issuing less work permits is the solution?

Nothing will speed up while the docile alledged housing minister is in the job

ibec_irl 2006 / 2023 Units Built: 90k / 30k CGT & CAT 20% / 33% Income tax & USC 20-40% / 27- 51% Property tax reliefs: €400m / €70m+ All the above have implications for every component of housing.

Ireland’s housing crisis: why doesn’t the State step in and build?Eoin Burke-Kennedy: Some argue the Government is ideologically wedded to the idea that the market is the most efficient model for delivery of housing but perhaps there’s another reason for the low-build rates What a bunch of communist horsesht. The government isnt pro-market at all. Restrictions have been rapidly increasing since the bank bailouts. The states approach to housing is ideological. There is no reason affordable housing as laid out by SF wouldnt work. State owns the land citzn buys the house at an affordable rate and when its sold is sold back to the state at equivalent price. The pvt mrkt would still be avlbe IrishTimes Even if the government did decide to build houses directly is there enough capacity in the construction trade to build thousands of extra houses every year? It seems unlikely.
