Although the survival rate is average in international terms, the research shows it is increasing, by 14 per cent year on year. Just 1 per cent of patients who did not have any defibrillation survived – but almost 70 per cent of the heart attacks reviewed were in this category. Emergency medical services were reconfigured in 2015/2016, when multiple regional control centres were amalgamated into a single National Emergency Operations Centre. Training of first responders and public education has also been stepped up.
They suggest further examination of whether and how amiodarone can be made available to all patients.
