The HSE Chief Executive will tell TDs and Senators later that although the health service is emerging from a very challenging period, it is not out of the woods yet.
In his opening statement, Mr Reid will say that although coronavirus cases have fallen, the numbers remain very high. On vaccinations, he will say the programme is building towards 250,000 doses per week. This will involve new IT systems, infrastructure and recruitment. Mr Reid will also say retrospective contact tracing will increase if case numbers remain low and antigen testing may be used in meat processing plants and outbreak settings. Yesterday, Professor Philip Nolan, chair of NPHET's Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, said there is sustained and "perhaps even accelerated progress" in suppressing transmission of Covid-19.
