The Minister for Further and Higher Education has said that while Level 5 restrictions are "having the desired effect" and the number of positive cases is reducing, it is still "far too early to declare victory".
"And that's not just an Irish situation - we're seeing it right across the European Union now, we're seeing it in France and in Germany." He added that this is "not forever" and he encouraged young people not to put their lives on hold. "There will be a day where this will be behind us", he said. "Don't stop making your plans, don't stop dreaming about your future. There are still lots and lots of options out there".
However, public health officials have stressed in recent days that it is too early to say if there are any definitive trends emerging. Latest figures show there are 327 people in hospital with Covid-19, with 40 of these patients in intensive care units.
How? It's been a week. The government and the CMO said many times that it takes 6 weeks to see a change after introducing lockdown restrictions. How are we now seeing it after a week?

Cases dropping nothing to do with level 5. This case drop was from level 3 as you people always said it takes 3 weeks for effects to register. And now some EU health experts say millions will die . Unbelievable shite

Wasnt the government asked at the press conference announcing level 5. Where we jumping the gun going to level 5 compared to the rest of Europe. Think the answer was, lets wait and see, and now we are seeing other countries going to into lockdowns.

It looks like our positive cases are declining while many countries in Europe are still increasing so level 3 was working. The deaths probably lag behind by about 2-3 weeks so might go up more. But the UK has roughly 300 deaths a day which is multiple times our per capita rate.
