Farmers will be asked to reduce emissions by 25% by 2030 - which will take into account a number of measures.
The difference between both sides narrowed significantly yesterday with Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue refusing to go above a 24% emissions reduction target. The compromise of 25% means representatives from all three Government parties are likely to be left disappointed. Earlier today, Fianna Fáil TD for West Cork Christopher O'Sullivan said the emissions agreement should not be postponed until September.
He also said that in west Cork, which is dairy heartland, farmers are concerned and do not"want a Brexit scenario" with a long and drawn out process."They want a decision now."The Fianna Fáil stance, he said, is not at 30% as the party believes that level would have a huge detrimental impact on"what is an important industry, particularly for rural Ireland".
Fianna Fail should concentrate on the real culprits and not agriculture
pippa_hackett This lad most think he is in fairy land not with it in the real world at all.
This fellas Goona Have move out From Donegal to the, and what a turn coat Scum Bag
newschambers Bankrupt the farmers that's his agenda. Irish farmers did not protest it could have been 30per cent. No fighting Irish.
newschambers This man needs to be put out to pasture at next election. His and ff/fg betrayal of farmer interest will be long remembered.
Try and convince the farming communities Charlie. They will feel betrayed by FF and FG in order to keep the Greens onside.
fiannafailparty Like most people in the country, I think your talking out your arse.
It is pityful SF/IRA haven't a policy on agricultural emissions. Do they know of global warming?
Charlie McConalogue is soft sell out artist. No guts. How is this going to be achieved. Give specifics actions.
First Minister for Agriculture to be so anti Agriculture
Hey fiannafailparty FineGael, I'm not angry at the green party, they're a cult and act as such. I'm angry at my local FF and FG TD for enabling them and destroying Irish industry and agriculture and will be acting accordingly at the next election...
McConalogue crumbles under pressure again like a Mica block. Absolutely useless minister.
newschambers utter failure of leadership; it does farmers no favours to pretend that they won’t ultimately have to reduce the national herd - magical thinking will just put more of them out of business eventually
The irish public does not believe in the scam climate change! We are facing the biggest recession in decades and we don't believe anything coming out of his mouth!

Breaking Irish Government pledge to cut the amount of atmospheric co2 (the gas of life) by..... 25% of 30% of 0.09% of 4% of 0 .04% Just to satisfy some cultists (the end of the world is nigh) agenda Do you still think these people are working for you?
What about the emissions from motor cycle racing, the emissions from staffing abortion clinics, and the emissions due to hospital demand by abusers of alcohol & drugs
Can
Shame on FF and FG for allowing Eamon Ryan to destroy farming in Ireland. Disgusting
Can government say how this will impact the climate ?
Ireland is the next Sri Lanka thanks to 'The Greens'.
Larry, curly and moe...is anyone surprised they don't have a plan on how they will do it.
Good luck with enforcing that ! How will it be measured and implemented at say a farm level ? It’s all estimates, there’s no way to monitor other than counting cows
Say No to reductions.
Are farmers in this country gonna make a stand like their counterparts across Europe or will they let the gov't ruin their livelihoods?
They will give greens anything to stay in power …
But what impact does 25% have on farmers? Does it apply to small local farmers or does it impact on big meat export barons like ABP? Who does the Government favour? This a squabble over the unknown and makes no sense and why Sinn Féin had no opinion.
So if agriculture are to get a median figure, will other sectors get similar treatment? .... or will agriculture shortfall be made up from Jane and Joe citizen? What if targets are not met (again)? Farcical!

Amazing achievement by Eamon Ryan...No other Green Party in Europe would get such concessions from the other parties....We can expect Methane curve to bend in a few years.
Just how exactly does one go about reducing emissions from cows etc. Machinery and the like aside, surely cattle contribute to the carbon footprint of the agriculture industry.
Until they come back again taking more. It’s now or never farmers
Maybe we could start by ban on business call class travel for EamonRyan 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Time for Irish Farmers to Rise Up like the dutch!! ProtectIrishFarmers
Mass protests are on their way. This climate dictatorship is going no where. Average people are sick to death of well off people lecturing from the first class seats and dictating while living high carbon footprint lives. hypocrites
'Govt to ask..' The most fascist totalitarian menace government in the history of the state and the biggest present danger to Ireland wont 'ask'. If they want to ask how about let us have a vote on it.
Lol... 'ask'. If that was true, farmers can politely decline & continue making the food we need to survive.
Keep voting for the greens and this is what you get
Criminals.

Govt 'closer' to agreement on farming emissions cutsThe three coalition party leaders are moving closer to an agreement on how much the agriculture sector should have to cut its carbon emissions. sometimes coalition government is too painful but sometimes it's the only safe way to have a government. Reducing food production at a time when the threat of food shortages looms, think about it. This isn't about saving the planet.
