Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has said that any new restrictions decided on tomorrow, when Cabinet is due to meet, will be implemented nationwide.

Image: LEAH FARRELL; RollingNews.ie Image: LEAH FARRELL; RollingNews.ie MINISTER FOR HIGHER Education Simon Harris has said that the government will take “decisive” action tomorrow following meetings between the coalition leaders and several ministers yesterday to discuss how to respond to public health advice to move Ireland to Level 5 restrictions.

Harris said that more restrictions will need to be brought in tomorrow, and that Level 3 “has not worked in terms of getting the virus to where it needs to get to”.Yesterday, the three coalition party leaders, along with the Ministers for Health, Finance, and Public Expenditure, met to discuss whether Ireland should adopt Level 5 restrictions following a recommendation from the National Public Health Emergency Team .

The politicians at yesterday’s meeting heard from senior members of the NPHET team on the current Covid-19 situation in Ireland that led them to the recommendation.“I spoke to the Tánaiste, and they heard a wide range of presentations from NPHET and from Paul Reid, the head of the HSE, but also presentations on what happened during the last lockdown and some worrying statistics on domestic violence reports being up by a third,” Harris said.

Oooh, spooky! Masks mandatory outdoors perhaps? Good luck with that 👎

New restrictions for college students? I'm confused as to why this person is making announcements that fall under the remit of the health minister. Is he just that narcissistic?

Resign panic merchant

I don’t understand how you can’t have anyone to your house or garden but planned outdoor gatherings of 15 are allowed? It makes zero sense!

They cod also study why Level 3 didn't work. That's what should inform what action needs to be taken.

There has to be a better way to deal with Covid and protect the vulnerable. Another IrelandLockdown will ruin lives and livelihoods more than it will protect. The buy time argument is bankrupt, there will be no Covid vaccine in Ireland for 1+ yrs. Repeat Lockdown is madness.

Hi Simon Just Saw You OnThe News Please Shut down the COUNTRY Thanks MARY Limerick.

Tomorrow......just time to get another round of golf in.....

Is there any reason why the Ex Health Minister is tweeting more than the present Health Minister. Is it that Simon hasn't or can't let go of his previous job. Having said that his present job doesn't lend itself to tweeting about.

Why is SimonHarrisTD announcing this when the Cabinet has yet to meet? Solo runs appear to be a forte of FineGael ministers. We have LeoTheLeak and in the last Government CharlieFlanagan (the God of theirishobserve) blowing the election for Fine Gael over the RIC shambles.

As much as I'd prefer for schools to be open, if they won't be closed or limited at the very least then a full on lockdown probably won't be super effective, literally what's the point of shutting everything down and restricting movement if students have to be in the same--

You mean the cabinet set up to make and implement decisions will implement new restrictions if they come up with them? Thanks Simon! 🤦‍♂️

So counties that have very little cases should suffer like others This is just ridiculous!! Absolutely sickening!!

Restrictions to higher education.... me no understand 🤷‍♀️ Can he give us an update on the agricultural and financial briefs as well?

Spokesperson for..?

Why wait until tomorrow?
