Government appeals for properties to house new arrivals in medium-term as system under severe pressure

New arrivals fleeing war in Ukraine were housed at the old terminal building in Dublin airport last month due to lack of State-provided accommodation. Photograph: Colin Keegan/CollinsThe Government is to issue a renewed call for accommodation for Ukrainian refugees amid increasing pressure on the State’s capacity to house new arrivals.

While about 1,450 pledged properties have now been Garda vetted and are receiving placements, the flow of people into the country and the low numbers of people exiting emergency accommodation to more sustainable options is increasing strain on the system. “The notice will set out the types of accommodation that the department is contracting, the standards required, and the process for expressions of interest,” he said.

Tell the government I said go screw themselves.

It's almost like there are consequences to decisions the government makes. Of course no inkling of any awareness of that fact much less any accountability.

Has the Irish government lost the plot?

Perhaps the government's decision to allow unlimited numbers of refugees into the country wasn't a very good one after all; not for the country and not for the refugees either. Why is the current government (the same one that decided a €9 meal could stop Covid) still in power?

Stop letting everyone and anyone into Our Country without them having to meet a certain standard for the privilege of living here
