Glenroe star Emmet Bergin, best known for playing Dick Moran, has died

The actor, best known for his role as Dick Moran, passed away suddenly on Friday March 15.

The landed the iconic part when the popular series started on RTÉ One in 1983 and he remained on the show until it finished 18 years later in 2001.Emmet's brother Patrick Bergin is also a famous Irish actor. He is survived by his wife Sarah and his children, Gavan and Tara A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 26th, at Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium, in Harold’s Cross, Dublin.The heart-throb of the show, Dick Moran, was the local suave solicitor that every Irish mammy loved. He married Biddy’s mother Mary, but his wandering eye got him in trouble more than once. Who can forget his affair with Terry Killeen?

After Glenroe finished, Emmet went on to star in RTÉ drama The Clinic, Irish movie Veronica Guerin and Alarm. He also played the role of Ulfus in the 1981 fantasy film Excalibur and the short movie Brief Encounter.
