The trial of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch which was due to get underway at the Special Criminal Court today has been postponed for at least a week in light of "significant additional evidence."
The court heard that putting back the trial date could cause a major delay in the trial going ahead due to a backlog in the Special Criminal Court's diary. Bonney, of Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock, Dublin 13, is charged with participating in or contributing to activity intending to or being reckless as to whether such participation or contribution could facilitate the commission of a serious offence by a criminal organisation or any of its members, to wit the murder of David Byrne, by providing access to individual motor vehicles to that criminal organisation or its members, within the State on February 5, 2016.
It was heard Mr Dowdall has given a formal statement to gardai implicating "other persons" relating to the murder at the Regency Hotel in February 2016. This morning at the Special Criminal Court, Dowdall and his father entered the courtroom flanked by two plain clothes gardai. A number of other undercover officers were in the court room as every security measure was taken.
Det Sgt O'Toole, in the witness box, agreed with Dowdall's Senior Counsel Michael O'Higgins that the information was "sincere and genuine." The court heard that Dowdall has implicated "other persons."
