Nigerian government office calls shooting ‘wicked’; Irish Nigerians ‘extremely angry’

Like pepper spray, they often fail to work in time. “It could not connect properly or it could depend on the adrenaline of the person or if there are drugs involved,” she says.

“You don’t hear what is being discussed. Even if it’s a minute-long video, you’d want to be a very poor expert to make an assessment based on it. You could have another video from a different angle which tells a different story.” A more immediate goal is to work on relations with African communities in west Dublin. “There’s not exactly riots out there. It’s not that bad,” says a senior Garda source. “But our diversity officers have been very active in engaging with community leaders and pastors out in the area in the last few days. And they in turn have been working with us to try and manage it.”Obi Odemena, leader of the Igbo union of Dublin, of which the Nkencho family were members, appealed for calm.

Garda sources have confirmed Mr Nkencho was known to suffer from mental illness and that officers have been called to the house several times to deal with “mental health and domestic issues”.

Why don’t they just shoot people in the leg or something. No need to blast someone with a knife. Right or wrong, you can disable people.

Every Garda to carry a pitch for from now on.

SbradyInt Neither the use of taser or pepper spray can be considered as graduated use of force as in this case they both failed to deter the man brandishing a weapon and he was only stopped by kleathel force.

donalscannell Irish Slimes must be losing its touch. Shows picture of deceased yob giving gang signs rather than holding a bunch of flowers.

I bet the guy who stuck a hatchet in your mans head on Rogerson's Quay earlier this year also had 'mental health problems'

Important paragraph that should be placed higher in the story: “Garda sources have confirmed Mr Nkencho was known to suffer from mental illness and that officers have been called to the house several times to deal with ‘mental health and domestic issues’”

I hope the poor mother of two who was dragged from her car and beaten in Blanch yesterday is doing ok .. horrendous scenes of completely innocent bystanders getting throttled simply because they're white.

Couldn’t you find a photo where he wasn’t throwing a gang sign? Lol the sheer unconscious racism of the “Irish” Times.

The gardai made the right choice. If they hadn't opened fire at least one of them would be dead now. GeorgeNkencho was a violent criminal who refused to surrender peacefully and responded with violence. HE is the one responsible for escalating the level of violence.

George got the justice he deserved, he just wasn't shot enough times

If he had of been deported as he should have years ago he would still be alive.

At this stage just disable the comments because it’s just filled with racist bots.

If you lead the 'Thug Life' don't expect not to die in violent circumstances. BlackKnivesMatter🔪

What the fuck is an 'Irish Nigerian'? Is that not arseways and have you checked if they have dual citizenship! I've heard of Irish Americans but they are in America. Are the ones you speak of in Nigeria ?

I see the cultural enrichment is looking for a reason to do some BLM shopping...

Ah yes, the usual 'experts' give their opinion. I'm pretty sure none of them ever were faced with the situation that some of those Gardaí had in that incident. No political advisors on the scene. Seconds to make a life threatening decision. That's why it's called the front line.

Bloody heck, someone needs to watch Louis Theroux: Law and Order in Lagos and then come back and say the gardai escalated too quickly! No member of the gardai wants to fatally wound someone.

This is not a BLM issue. I fully support that cause, but this guy does not deserve any sympathy.. He has a rap sheet the length of my arm. He attacked and gave life changing injuries to an innocent person trying to make a living. He is a scumbag. Better off rotting in the ground.

How's his victim doing ?

Even in death George Nkencho parasitically drains Ireland's resources, leeches from individuals who contribute to Irish society.

Gardaí should be supported by the Minister and the government in this. McEntee's statement was a disgrace. This is a pivotal moment for Ireland. The Minister is more likely to instruct the Gardaí to take the knee for them.

Nigerian foreign affairs office tries to interfere in internal Irish matters: another clear indication of the asylum scam from applicants from nigeria.

The government needs to support the garda in this sending message out there for type of violence. People Can't go round with knives of any kind or guns and not get away with it.he done the crime and didn't give up and paid for it. Yes it's sad for any families that goes this.

Why didn't he just drop the knife, any where else in the world he be shot there & then no stand of you don't go up any law enforcements with a weapon of any kind.if the garda had a gun them at the shops or post office he shot there too if he didn't drop the knife.

Open and shut case.

Hey Irish Slimes, how about ONE day do some REAL JOURNALISM,interview this poor lady

Nigerian government has a strange sense of humour. IrexitFreedom

I think the Nigerian Government should immediately repatriate its (ahem) asylum seekers from terrible Ireland.

The enquiry will have months to decide & cost a fortune. The bewigged ones in the law library already salivating at the prospect of fees. The garda had less than a second to decide. Let’s get real. He acted in the interest of public safety. No further enquiry needed.

When you get a case of suicide by garda like this did he not get what he wanted? We had another one some years back

Don’t let these BLM and all these bullshits destroy your beautiful country. They already did it in UK and France. Full support to Irish people and Garda. These kind of people have nothing to do in Europe except to create chaos, they must be deported to their home countries

The Gardai should get bravery medals.

RAG

They'll look at everything except the behaviour of the criminal himself.

He was a career criminal, had 32 convictions, beat up a shopkeeper, broke his nose, wouldn’t respond to gardai orders to drop his weapon, ran at Garda trying to slash him.. all this and the entitled little gibshite brats still thinks he is a poor victim..

Ia anyone going to report on the disgraceful behaviour that was carried out on new years eve a shopping center and community that had no involvement terriorised for the day.? Buses and cars vandalised. The shop where he beat people and weilded a knife locked in by a mob
