Gary Dicker has decided to hang up his boots and immerse himself in his coaching career

The Dubliner, 35, returned to Brighton last summer as player-coach for their Under-23s, where three over-aged players are permitted in Premier League 2 squads.

But Dicker has today announced his retirement after 15 years in English and Scottish football, and the League of Ireland before that.“A big thank you to all the clubs, fans, players, staff and managers I’ve played with and played for.Dicker played in the League of Ireland with UCD between 2004 and 2007 and had a loan spell with Birmingham City.

He then joined Stockport County before four good years at Brighton. He signed for Rochdale after that and then Crawley Town, Carlisle United and Kilmarnock. Last year at Kilmarnock, he was part of a three-man management team that was put in temporary charge of the SPL side having already coached the club’s reserves.

But Dicker returned to Brighton - where he made over 150 appearances - last July to take on the coaching-led role with the Under-23s.
