If you’ve just bought a new home, a barebones garden can feel like an overwhelming project when combined with an empty house. The good news is, gardening expert Diarmuid Gavin says the first thing you should do... is nothing. Find out his top tips below.

The next thing is understanding your soil. Dig a little bit and see has your soil been really compacted by the builders who have just left. Is your lawn just going to be a whole load of puddles for six months of the year? You have to improve your soil and to do that will always mean mixing in good organic matter.
