A tweet posted claims the officers flagged down the car thinking that the 22-year-old woman was actually a child.
Colleen Clarke tweeted: "The garda just pulled my mam over because she had a little girl in the front seat … the little girl was me a 22 year old." However, despite popular belief, there is no law against children sitting in the front seat, as long as they use the correct child restraint for their height and weight.
All child car seats sold in Ireland must meet EU standards. This means when buying a child car seat, you should always look for the 'E' mark. The RSA advised you to choose a retailer who can fit the child car seat for you and who can show you how to fit it correctly yourself.
