Gardai plead with public to avoid funerals due to Covid - listing six alternatives to pay respects

Gardai have told members of the public 'it's ok to not attend a funeral' due to strict Covid rules in place.

In a plea on social media Gardai urged the public not to go to a funeral unless totally necessary and possibly examine other ways to mourn in a safe manner.Gardai have offered alternatives for people such as signing online condolence books, sending sympathy cards, email, text messages, social media messages and phone calls.

A post on social media read: "It’s okay not to attend a wake, funeral service, burial or cremation these days because only 10 mourners are allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions.Current Level Five restrictions are set to remain in place until March 5 before a decision will be made on the extension of lockdown measures.

However it has been very clear that it is unlikely there will be any major changes to the restrictions. Funerals have been made particularly difficult throughout the pandemic due to the strict number of attendees allowed.
