This morning, Judge Quinn said the degree of Farrell’s culpability was in the lower range. He said the aggravating factor was his speed. Forensic investigators put the car’s speed at the point of impact, following heavy braking, at between 50 to 56km/h. The speed limit on the road was 50km/h. Reading from his victim impact statement, he said his mother had been fit and healthy for her age and had many more years of her life left. He said his father’s health deteriorated after his mother’s death and he passed away “almost two years to the day she died”.

At last month’s hearing Detective Superintendent Colm O’Malley offered “sincere condolences” to the Core family for their tragic loss on behalf of Garda Farrell and An Garda Síochána. Butler said the Director of Public Prosecutions had rejected an offer of a guilty plea on careless driving causing death and the matter went to trial.

He has received commendations for excellent police work in apprehending offenders and, in one case, talking a 15-year-old boy out of taking his own life.

If have two grand in the bank. Can I buy my way out of a prison sentence if I ever need to? Is is inversely proportional to the number of years left? 75 year old man - 2k 6 month old baby - 200k?

Blood money?

Justice?

Pathetic

The law is an ass.😡

This is clearly wrong

That’s Disgraceful should be put of the road if not Jail time now he buys his way out

Disgraceful, again the courts erode trust in the justice system.

Is that what a life is worth? €2,000?

Life is cheap

Bishop warns number of priests under 75 will halveThe number of diocesan priests under the retirement age of 75 will be at least halved in the next ten years and the number of Sunday Masses will have to be reduced, according to the Catholic Bishop of Ossory, Dermot Farrell. They'll import priest from Africa for a while. Eventually young men out there will see sense and they will have to take anyone they can get. Ie married men, women, gay people etc. The number of people attending mass under the age of 75 will also be at least halved in the next 10 years. Therefore needing new priests in Ireland won’t be an issue. Bring in the women while you still have a chance
