Gardaí in Limerick were not “overly impressed” after a recruitment advert for South Australia Police was placed outside a garda station in the city centre.
The tagline “Down Here, It’s a Pretty Great Career” was plastered at the top of the poster, but in a post on Instagram, gardaí hit back at the attempt at getting officers to move down under, adding: “But Up Here…. A Job Worth Doing”.Five gardaí stood in front of the van in the picture posted to Instagram, adding that they were not “overly impressed” with the stunt as they explained that while it is a challenging job, it is also worthwhile.
South Australia Police have been targeting officers in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain as part of a recruitment campaign. The Adelaide-headquartered force, known as SAPOL, has already had more than 50 expressions of interest from serving gardaí. Originally from Kilkenny, Kavanagh said that as part of the programme, serving gardaí would spend just 15 weeks at the academy, rather than the nine-month training period.
