An on-duty garda, in an unmarked patrol car, was helping a broken down vehicle on the roadside when the patrol car was struck by another vehicle.
The garda suffered serious injuries and was taken from the scene by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle was also removed to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gardaí are currently at the scene and the N25 Cork to Waterford road is currently closed and will remain closed until an examination by forensic road crash investigators is completed.
