Minister Paschal Donohoe says decisions will have to be made in a few weeks’ time about how the State will continue to pay welfare supports to people who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19

Image: Shutterstock/Joey Laffort Image: Shutterstock/Joey Laffort FINANCE MINISTER PASCHAL Donohoe has said decisions will have to be made in a few weeks’ time about how the State will continue to pay welfare supports to people who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19.

Donohoe said he would soon be engaging with Business Minister Heather Humphreys and Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty regarding the future of the pandemic payment. We will have to taper the wage subsidy scheme over time. We will need to do that. As people return to work, and as the Irish economy begins to recover, employers will be able to pay their workers, said the minister.“We are in a position to fully implement the subsidy, as it stands, for the next eight to nine weeks, which is for how long it continues to be in operation. But then after that point decisions will have to be made regarding how it is maintained.

“We do start from a position of strength. We’ve had a budget surplus over recent years. We do have significant cash reserves. And we have a restored reputation in the financial markets,” he added.

Sue China for this. Some states in America have started. Also they screwed us over on the PPE

6 weeks into the lockdown and we’re broke. Just great.

Maybe all the TD’s should hand back their “gift” of almost €9000 that they got because of the pandemic! They get paid enough 😡

The state has plenty of money in their back pocket,I ain’t buying it.

Come here, how about you don’t pay over the odds for a fupp’n children’s hospital, a broad band plan that will be out of date before it begins and DOB to use his private hospitals. Oh, take a pay cut ye cnuts.

Up goes the FG kite to gauge reaction

That's when the real fun begins.

The Government and Civil Servants are on full pay. How about they all do what the Private Sector has done and take a paycut. Obviously Medical staff excluded. I still have the same job but on 15% less and OOH is time in lieu. Some are more equal than others.

And how much we will have to give back?🐏🐏🐏🐑🐏

How about apples 12 billion

At this time the Covid 19 Payment is all that is keeping our economy going and keeping more people from homelessness, we paid 220 Billion to bail our Dirty Birty and his buddies, so a few Billion on workers is welcomed..

Em how about letting us go back to work?
