There has been much debate over the incoming €1,000 pandemic bonus after a hoard of workers were left off the eligible list of recipients.

Last week, the government agreed to designate a one-off public holiday on Friday, March 18, 2022, in recognition of the efforts of the general public, volunteers as well as all workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, there were many others who were part of the incredible effort to keep the country running during the pandemic who were also deemed ineligible of the bonus. At the weekend, Minister for State Patrick O'Donovan said a panel would be set up to finalise who will get the bonus and when people can expect to be paid.Meanwhile, Sinn Féin's Finance Spokesman Pearse Doherty said it was a "mistake" to exclude family carers from the scheme.

Mr. Doherty went on to say that there is a sense of "ambiguity" in relation to who will receive the payment.
