Consumers are bracing themselves for a series of price hikes which are set to come into effect from next week, with the cost of petrol, diesel, broadband, mobile phone and television all set to rise.
In March of that year, the government cut excise duty on fuel by 20c and diesel by 15c in response to a spike in prices at the pump driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and general fuel shortages. That means from Monday, motorists will pay an extra 4c per litre of petrol, 3c per litre of diesel and 1.5c on marked gas oil.
Motorists are expected to face a fourth price rise in January 2025 of up to 2c a litre due to increased biofuels costs. Eir, Vodafone, Sky Ireland and Three will all be increasing monthly prices on their plans, with the price hikes ranging from €2 to €8 depending on which provider and which plan is used.
Most of Sky Ireland TV and broadband customers - of which there are around 600,000 in the State - will see a monthly increase to the cost of their package, with the average increase across their products being 6.7 per cent.Three customers are also set to be hit with a price hike, as prices go up by a flat 4.5 per cent each April regardless of the rate of inflation.
