Analysis of the Ireland women's team is more honest these days, says former international and Underdogs star Méabh De Búrca

Méabh De Búrca has recalled the time Roy Keane read the riot act to the Irish women’s players - after a poor performance in a 3-1 home defeat to Russia. He was invited into the dressing room after the match and didn’t hold back in his criticism of the performance.“I remember years ago Roy Keane came into the dressing room. We played Russia, I think, in Tallaght. We were crap and we got hammered,” De Búrca said.

“The next thing he comes in and says, ‘Jesus, that wasn’t good enough, if you can’t pass the ball from A to B how are you going to win the game?’. “This was back in 2014. It would have been unheard of, people criticising us. He was just being honest and it was so refreshing in a way - and he was right.
