“We’re offering logistical and financial support to any medic who wants to fly back to Ireland to help fight against Covid-19” An online campaign focused on repatriating Irish doctors has welcomed its first arrival this morning.

Marianne Hennigan, who had been working as a doctor in Australia for two-and-a-half years, had been stranded in New Zealand while travelling but landed home earlier today.

She wanted to return to Ireland to assist with the response to Covid-19 but had trouble securing a return home as flights were cancelled and ticket prices soared. He said volunteers are working around the clock to try and find flights for doctors stuck in other countries. "As this thing progresses, more of the frontline will need to isolate. We will have a large number of folks working in the health service who will need to step out or isolate from their families," he said.

"I had awful trouble getting home but Neil and the team have been fantastic. I just want to say a big thanks to them and everyone who has donated. I'm forever grateful, I wouldn't be here only for them.""I also just want to say thank you to all the fantastic frontliners who have been here all along, and to the public for following the safety guidelines. It's a team effort," she added.

Other organisations have been helping healthcare workers with transport including e-bikes and rental cars.

I’m an Irish doc who quit my job and paid for a flight to get home. Being told the only work I can be offered is crisis contract to cover sick leave. Out of pocket thousands and no job security now. No way to claim flight costs back and no job. Not feeling like a frontlinehero

And if all the medics working in Ireland left to right covid 19 back in there homes what would that do to our hospitals

So really you’re asking Doctors and Nurses to come back and ‘step up’, as you put it. Line up for infection you mean. ‘Shoulder to shoulder’ you say, go on then you do just that, go hand out stuff they need, physically, ‘shoulder to shoulder’.

👍👍👍👍👍

Let's remember why they left

Well done neilosands
