He was responding to Independent TD Michael Lowry who said that people who had survived cancer found it more difficult to get a mortgage and insurance.Mr Lowry called for a"right to be forgotten" which would mean that survivors would not be required to declare they had cancer after a five year period.He added that a cancer survivors being denied access to a financial service was a"hammer blow" after they had recovered from illness.
Mr Varadkar said the issue was a"real problem" and potentially a rating of an individual could be"time bound". He added that officials were engaging with stakeholders on the issue and it could potentially involve a new code of conduct for insurers.
