The final local elections seats were filled tonight following a number of tense recounts in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

Independent Michael McNamara gained 6,690 votes following the elimination of Independent’s Eddie Punch. Kathleen Funchion of Sinn Féin fell back into fourth place, while Independents 4 Change MEP Mick Wallace surpassed Fianna Fáil’s Cynthia Ni Mhurchú who fell outside the top five for the first time since counting began.
