Fare reductions being examined to get people back on public transport

Reductions in fares – including the possibility of free tickets for children – are among measures being considered to encourage people back on to public transport now that Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.heard on Thursday that the National Transport Authority’s biggest challenge in the area is to understand what the new pattern of commuting will be as people return to their offices, in many cases with hybrid arrangements involving remote work.

It said the NTA is working on the new system of discounted fares for young people aged between 19 and 23 years old which was announced in the Budget. This situation continued in 2021 and while there was a recovery in passenger numbers at times, “it was still well below pre-pandemic levels.”Ms Graham said increased Government funding offset the fare revenue shortfall due to the pandemic and as a result public transport operators suffered no commercial loss.

Additional cleaning and other controls were put in place but she said the NTA is planning marketing campaigns to build passenger confidence again. He predicted that most “white-collar workers” won’t be back in the office five days per week and questioned if everybody will want to go to their workplaces on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Simple Sure why don't they just show the students the papers a few months before the exams. When they're at it let them also take in their book into the exam hall and allow all students for confer throughout the exam. Heaven forbid they'd be put under any undue pressure.
