Dublin

The family of Thomas Weekes, who died days after being attacked near his home in October 1992, have tried desperately over the years to retrieve items of huge sentimental value which they say gardaí have failed to return

The brother of a Dublin man who died days after being assaulted over 30 years ago has pleaded for gardai to return the jacket and boots he was wearing the night he was attacked as they hold huge sentimental value.

Gardai launched an investigation into the incident and asked Thomas' family for the clothes he was wearing the night he was attacked. "I told the guards at the time I didn't want the jeans or the shirt back because they were just too blood stained, but I did want to keep his boots and his leather jacket," Sean said.

"Whenever I went up, they were very nice to me. The gardai were always very respectful and kind and would ask about the family, but they would just say, 'could you come back another week,' or they'd give me a day or something like that. And sometimes I would call and talk to somebody on the desk and I just seemed to be fobbed off."

Sean continued: "This was his first real job and he was very proud of taking care of himself and his girlfriend.
