FactCheck: A Renua local election candidate has claimed that the sex education bill could lead to children aged 0-4 being taught about masturbation. Verdict: False

A LOCAL ELECTION candidate running for Renua has claimed that children aged 0-4 could potentially be taught about masturbation if the sex education bill currently making its way through the Oireachtas becomes law.

On 9 May, he tweeted a screenshot of a World Health Organisation report with the caption: “Some of the ridiculous nonsense being recommended for inclusion in the RSE sex-ed bill What kind of moron thinks a baby between the age of 0 & 4 needs to learn about early childhood masturbation??? Why cant [sic] these crazy liberals just leave children alone and let kids be kids.

“People don’t put things in writing unless they mean it. This is in writing, in a World Health Organisation report, and this report is referenced in the Irish NCCA as a supporting document to the recommendations they’re making to the government on what the new sexual education bill should be.” The Provision of Objective Sex Education Bill was published in April 2018 and was sponsored by Solidarity-People Before Profit TDs Ruth Coppinger, Paul Murphy and Mick Barry. It is currently making its way through the Oireachtas.

There is no link between the content of the sex education bill and this NCCA paper cited by O’Mahony. The WHO report is referenced as an illustration of a framework for sexuality education from birth to 18 years that has a primary focus on “sexuality as a positive human potential and a source of satisfaction and pleasure.”

While the research paper does reference the WHO document, there is there is no reference to “early childhood masturbation” in the paper itself. The research paper also notes that the approach taken by the WHO has been criticised by some because it “may lead to increased or earlier sexual activity, loss of innocence, damage, or increased risk of sexual abuse.”

Journal is fake news

The journal about as much credibility as the North Korean news agency. The journal are 21st century digital book burners deleting comments that aren’t part of the issued hymn sheet on their website. Ideological agents and Narrative crafters hack journalist activists.

The Journal and fact checking 😂😂😂

So the fact check is that the bill doesn't have this as paert of it, and not that the paper is real and does 'inform' (but not 'teach') 0-4 year olds about wanking. Fair enough, but the WHO paper still shows the level of sickness in the minds of some in these NGO org.

The Journal's fact checkers get it wrong AGAIN.

“Giving information on” = “teaching about” Why the blatant changes in wording between tweet & article? “The sex education bill will not lead to children between the ages of 0-4 being taught [ ] masturbation.” Where did “about” go in the supposed “fact check” “verdict”? 🤥

As if anyone is surprised either of these 2 eejits would be coming out with such shite

Who fact checks your fact checks? Cos ye talk some amount of shite.

Are ye seriously for real like in fairness I'm disgusted to even hear that kids are kids let them be kids. I'm really ashamed to have even read this article. Shame on them.

Remus are a bunch of right wing fundamentalist

Show us where it says it won't be taught!! Show us the proof! You don't even know the definition of a 'fact'!

Sorry , your caption here is at odds with your article titled. You seem to have fact-checked a claim that it 'would' happen, yet in the tweet caption you're saying that RenuaGalway said it 'could' happen. Two very different claims. Which was it? FactCheck

That's disgusting. Let kids be kids.

Fact check that’s something you should really do yourselves.

facthecking is performed by some of Ireland's most dedicated leftists and feminists with impeccable illiberal liberal credentials. - slant, spin, politically selective scrutiny and propaganda you can trust.

The journal really are a pile of shite! Lies just like during the referendum.

Who paid for this piece?
