Naakai Dzole Addy describes disturbing behaviour by Irish people in Dublin and Doolin

The Store Street Garda who took down the details was kind and soft-spoken. “Tell me what happened,” she requested.

It’s a stomach-dropping, throat-tingling awareness you might get if you walked down a dark alleyway at night, and you heard a group of men snickering just to your left, getting closer. It’s a flash of knowledge – far too late – that you are no longer in possession of your space. For 10 seconds, her oiled hands rested on my scalp. The only movement came through her breath, deep inhales and lengthy exhales. This was not: you give me money and I will attach synthetic fibres to your scalp. This was: you give me your trust, and I will give you back yourself.

I repeated myself in as many iterations as I could manage. Maybe: “Don’t touch my hair,” instead of “Why are you touching a stranger?” or the much simpler, “Get the f**k away from me.” I did say – I know I said – “Get out of my space.” The heat rose in me, up through my chest, into my lungs, creeping up until it found its home right behind my ears.

The woman screamed something about the injustice of it all; I threatened to throw her in the Liffey. I threatened it until she and he disappeared around the south side of the bridge. There was no time on Bachelors Walk to show that my hair was blessed, so I had to show them it was mine. I wished I had conveyed my rage five days before that, when a tall man in a“My girlfriend loves your hair. We were debating is it real or is it fake? I think it’s fake.

Kinda depressing that Irish people are like this, I’m not surprised though- society has gone to the dogs. Good article for raising a bit of awareness among people. I don’t really think there’s a need for Irish people to be defensive about it- if it’s a problem it’s a problem

Is this surprising!? What is going on in Dublin city centre is beyond belief. I would be 99% sure that these two Naakai encountered were junkies, up to no good, roaming around. It wouldn't happen in any other European capital city.

'A creative writing student from Trinity College'

Something not right about her story.

Arseholes are everywhere but the enormous majority of Irish people don’t do this. Gaslight me later after you work out why Irish Times sales are plummeting

Next time i get called a culchie i'm calling the times

Go home so!!!!!!

You could say this about the thousands of Irish living abroad in other countries..But doesn't give anyone the right to undermine anyone, name calling them...Using disturbing behaviour against anyone..Specially when race comes into the equation!! Shame on these so called folk!!

It's part and parcel to living in a White country.

Why would she find this racist?as the men of ur race does much worse to woman! it could be she is feeling a little homesick flights are cheap at the moment!! And as for the fake Irish times please start reporting on real issues about whats going on in Ireland like African gangs?

Things that didn’t happen...

They might be jealous

I'd believe this. Most irish people I know are intolerant, racist or sexist. The difference is they might not be overtly racist, (i.e shouting about it on the quays) & they defo wouldn't like someone saying they are, but I can guarantee, Their watsapp groups would out them. 😉

Best thing to do is bugger off home then I'm sure Ireland won't worry

How on earth does this bullshit make the papers

Got as far as this, absolutely hogwash, seriously try harder, this article is quite frankly pathetic and needs a few tips from Alan shatter trash 😂😂

Go away fake news a$$holes

There isn’t a day goes by without someone in Dublin calling me a Langer. racists

Jussie Smollett syndrome, this never happened

Nagging People is never ok.

Why do so many non whites want to live in such racist white countries like ireland? Zimbabwe or Nigeria sound like countries she might be more suited to.

If a pale skin person had an incident on bachelors walk it wouldn’t be reported. Pure racism by Irish media and white shaming.

Jesus the Irish times has transformed into a full time anti Irish hate group.

A writer, editor, and marketing specialist. She knows how to spin a story.

What? 'When you’ve grown up in a racist country, you come to feel these things just before they happen.'

A race hustler. Irish and Dubliners get abused too.

😫

One or two incidents with gobshites on bachelors walk and we generalise about Irish people ..quays has loads of lulas

Horrible experience, and well done for standing her ground.

Bachelors walk doesn't matter what colour you are you get abused

Uncorroborated event reported by a creative writer? Hmm.
