EU European Parliament votes in favour of greenwashing crackdown

The European Parliament has voted in favour of new regulations to impose significant fines on businesses that use misleading green claims. The Green Claims Deal would require companies to submit evidence about their environmental marketing claims before advertising. This includes terms such as “biodegradable” , “water saving” and “less polluting”.

Under the proposed directive, EU member states need to assign verifiers to pre-approve the use of such claims to help protect buyers from unfounded advertising. ...
