EU Farmers could get up to €15,000 and SMEs could benefit to the tune of €100,000, aimed at offsetting input cost increasesplans lump sum payment to farmers over rising costs

The commission says increases in energy fertiliser and feed prices are disrupting the agri sector and rural communities.

EU Agriculture Commissioner Januz Wojciechowski said farmers have continued to produce food under difficult circumstances and for some, survival is at stake. Member states will be allowed accesss 5% of their EAFRD budget for the payments, which must be targeted at those most affected by the current crisis and who are engaging in efficient and sustainable farming.The Ulster Farmers' Union has said the war in Ukraine has highlighted the fragility of food security at home and abroad.
