European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen makes a statement on Brexit, as the EU prepares legal action against the UK over its Internal Market Bill |

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is due to make a statement on Brexit shortly.

The letter of formal notice will state that the United Kingdom is in breach of Articles 4 and 5 of the Withdrawal Agreement, the so-called "good faith" provisions, RTÉ News understands. On Monday Mr Šefčovič said the EU would "not be shy" of using the legal means at its disposal over the UK’s pressing ahead of the Internal Market Bill.

A senior EU official said that because Ireland was the country most impacted by Brexit, the Taoiseach would be given the floor to address fellow leaders. Over dinner tonight, leaders will discuss the strategic relationship with Turkey in light of Turkish incursions into Greek and Cypriot waters in connection with recently discovered natural gas fields.

EU_Commission vonderleyen The ECJ? Which no longer has jurisdiction over the UK? A bit like little Johnny complaining to his Dad that little Joey next door stole his marbles.

EU_Commission vonderleyen I cannot understand why the EU did not cancel all talks with the UK immediately when they proposed this bill - you should not negotiate under illegal duress!

EU_Commission vonderleyen Wonder how many years this will take the ECJ to even listen to. Not exactly renowned for efficiency. Same as Brussels, slow road to nowhere. Glad we're out. Bureaucratic siht show 🇬🇧

EU_Commission vonderleyen We don't care be thankful you are all not speaking german .

Pint sized commissioner

Oohh that’s scary! Shut up and obey your EU masters as they repopulate Ireland with immigrants.

Short and sweet... no mince ❤️❤️

Nick Gutteridge: 'The EU's very own legal safety net, in the sense that it will only go anywhere if there's no trade deal agreed. Worth remembering the average pre-litigation phase for an infringement proceeding against the UK is more than two years (the EU average is 35 months)'

vonderleyen Thank you & your colleagues for standing up for international law & the Irish Protocol.

Over to you BorisJohnson you absolute muppet

LOL The EU threatening legal action against anyone for breaking International Law 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
