Erin McGregor can see now why her mum was worried when she got pregnant at 19

Erin McGregor wanted to be a hairdresser from an early age. She got a part-time job in a salon at 15 and begged Margaret to let her leave school in fifth year to do an apprenticeship.

“But I’m not there when she makes the babies,” Margaret jokes. “Letting her do the apprenticeship was the best decision I made because Erin was a brilliant hairdresser.” Erin became pregnant in the final year of her apprenticeship and had her beautiful daughter Taylor at 19. “My mam is one of the most lovable people and she’s very strong and non-judgemental,” says Erin. “You could tell her anything and she’d love you and accept you while guiding you in the right way.”

While the family found it hard being placed in the spotlight themselves initially, it also brought opportunities. People began to notice Erin’s effervescence and bubbly personality, which led to her being invited to participate in Dancing With The Stars in 2018. Although she was apprehensive and struggling with her own self-belief, Erin decided to accept the challenge.

Erin was a huge hit when she was on the show, which led to her being offered a part in the Olympia theatre’s panto. She practised night and day and Margaret was very impressed the first time she saw her on stage. “I was nervous but she was great,” she says.
